Frequently Asked Questions

Answers before you begin.

Find guidance about report types, required documents, processing, submission, payment, and acceptance.

01What is a credential evaluation?

A credential evaluation compares academic qualifications earned outside the United States with U.S. education standards. It helps a receiving organization understand the level and content of a foreign credential.

02Which evaluation should I choose?

A Summary Report provides a general U.S. equivalency. A Course-by-Course Analysis includes individual courses, credits, grades, and GPA information. Confirm the receiving organization's requirements before applying.

03What documents are required?

Most applicants provide transcripts or academic records, a diploma or degree certificate, and certified English translations when documents were not issued in English. IIC may request additional records after review.

04How can I submit my application?

Apply online and upload your documents, or download the fillable PDF and submit it with your documents by email or mail.

05How long does an evaluation take, and is rush service available?

Standard processing is 21 business days. Optional rush choices range from 15 business days to 24 hours. Any processing timeline begins after IIC receives the complete application, required documents, and payment.

06Will the receiving organization accept my evaluation?

Requirements vary. Confirm that the school, employer, licensing board, attorney, government office, or other receiving organization accepts an IIC evaluation and ask which report type it requires.

07How do I pay, and what should I know about refunds?

We accept payment in U.S. dollars by money order, check, cash, or Zelle. After reviewing your application, IIC will provide the applicable total and payment instructions. Evaluation work begins after all required documents and full payment are received. If you cancel before IIC begins evaluation work, IIC will refund the amount paid, less a $35 administrative fee. Once evaluation work begins, evaluation and rush-processing fees are non-refundable.
